How to be saved (and then be effective)
Click here to see a more in depth video about salvation
Eternal salvation is a free gift (Rom. 5:15) given
to all of mankind. However it only benefits those that are genuinely sorry for their
sins and have truly believed in Jesus to save them. Once a person receives Jesus'
offer of total and unequivocal forgiveness (this is what Biblical repentance is),
then they will be saved and kept saved (Rom. 8:28-39; Eph. 4:30.)
Sinners cannot work for their salvation nor
can they retain their salvation by living "a good life" (Matt. 19:17; Rom. 4:1-6.)
1) You need to believe in Jesus as your own personal Saviour, and by trusting in Him ALONE to save you, you won't go to Hell when you die but Heaven
"That if thou shalt confess with
thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him
from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Rom.10:9)
2) As evidence one is saved, not in order to be saved, one will now turn from their sin and start living a holy life (Heb. 12:12; Matt. 5:8.) Man is not perfect nor is he sinless, but as proof God has begun a new work in him, he will be striving to be a holy vessel (1 Pet. 4:4.)
"Let the wicked forsake
his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD,
and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." (Is.
55:7)
The last five points are just helpful tips to stay in fellowship with God, have prayers answered and be a strong witness to the lost. 3) Where possible baptism by total immersion should be sought "And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?" (Acts 8:36) 4) Read your Bible everyday and obey it to the best of your ability "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15) 5) Confess to other people that you believe in Jesus Christ "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 10:32,33) 6) Where possible seek fellowship with true Bible believing Christians "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend" (Pr. 27:17) 7) Pray each day and ask God to guide you and help you to live for Him "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Ps. 3:6) |
